The Environmental Working Group has pioneered the "Dirty Dozen" list of fruits and vegetables that are susceptible to retaining environmental chemicals The Dirty Dozen are is produce best purchased organically grown.
The "Clean 15" is a list of produce that is safe to buy conventionally grown.
It is important to note that the samples are tested for pesticides after they have been prepared to be eaten. This means the produce is thoroughly washed and, when applicable, peeled. After these preparations, pesticide residues are still detected on many of the fruits and veggies.
